In Service of Gouldian Finch Aviculture Since 1994

THE GOULDIAN FINCH

The Gouldian Finch (Erythrura gouldiae) is one of the most beautiful and brightly coloured birds in the world. It belongs to the family Estrildidae (together with many other popular cage and aviary birds of the small, seed-eating variety, such as waxbills, mannikins, munias, and grass-finches) and is native to the continent of Australia. In the wild, its habitat is restricted to selected pockets across the northern parts of the country, where its current population status is considered to be near threatened, but stable (IUCN, 2016). Fortunately, however, significant numbers of these birds are thriving in captivity all over the world.

THE GOULDIAN FINCH
SOCIETY

The Gouldian Finch Society (GFS) of South Africa is one of the most progressive cage bird clubs in South Africa. It is also the largest specialist bird club in the country. We hold monthly meetings in Bedfordview (Gauteng), on the 2nd Saturday of every month, from February to October. In addition, we host our annual Supreme Show on the 1st Saturday of February every year, and our Championship Young Bird Show on the last Saturday of November.
